Well I spoke to our customer service rep at Streamline two days ago and was assured it is now 18 months. This did back up a change to the T & C document we got about 6 months ago0

Eagle beagle here. It’s directly against the Banking Code. The Banking Code makes very few concrete statements; it’s mostly things like “the bank will try its best”, etc. But, one of the definite things it does say is:ejones999 wrote:I'm sure an eagle beagle will come along to confirm this.9.3 If you have a card which allows you to withdraw money from your account, we will provide you with account statements at least every three months if the card has been used.
It won’t be possible to challenge only the last three months’ charges. It’s all or nothing. If the continuous payment authority (CPA) is deemed valid, because you haven’t challenging it before, it’s just not possible to dispute any subsequent charges through the Visa system. So, it’s a case of pressing that valid authority was never obtained from the outset. This could be difficult, as you did initially give AOL CPA, when you first gave them your card detail. You may have asked AOL to cancel, but you can’t revoke the authority, only AOL can. Stupid, but that’s the way it is. See Martin’s thread Regular Payments off a Credit Card Discussion.
In general, that’s not a safe assumption. I don’t know what Barclays, when trading as Woolwich, do, but many card issuers, when they issue a replacement card, tell Visa the new card number and which card it replaces. Visa then translate CPA charges against the old card into charges against the new one. This is supposed to be for your convenience. So, if when your old card gets replaced, you don’t suddenly have your CPAs failing, because you forgot to tell the companies your new card number.uncledougm wrote:I have cancelled the old card and had a new one with new number issued so they cant charge me anymore.
Steps to take. As IIIOTWIG said, it’s a recorded letter to AOL insisting on the prompt return of all your money. You can also highlight to Woolwich their failure under the Banking Code. However, they will probably argue that it’s not their fault that you didn’t receive one of statement they did send you, and that you could have checked your account in a branch or using an ATM.
If nothing you do gets your money from AOL, there are two further things you can pursue. As you suggested, there’s a complaint the the Financial Ombudsman Service, especially as you weren’t getting frequent statements. The other is to start a claim against AOL in the “small claims” court. This would get their attention. However, I think that a correctly-addressed letter to AOL will be all that’s necessary. The “correct” address would be to Andy Jonesco MD at whatever AOL UK’s registered offices are. The Companies’ House website has oh-so-wonderfully shut down for the night. Just check there, when they’re open.古池や蛙飛込む水の音0 -
I would not be too sure about that. AFAIK, AOL can keep charging an old card number under a CPA even if you completely close your account!uncledougm wrote:Yes it is AOL. I contacted them and they cant find me in their system. I have cancelled the old card and had a new one with new number issued so they cant charge me anymore.0 -
Thank you Alfie E or Eagle beagle!
I think OP should print your answer out and take it back to Woolwich who are a party to the Banking code.
How on earth was the OP meant to check the items on his statements if they were never sent to him??0 -
Am happy to advise that Woolwich have refunded all the money involved. They have written to me advising that they have been kind and generous by doing so and have wrapped me over the knuckles for not cancelling the payment with AOL (which I did and informed them of this) and for not having one of their accounts that provides more regular statements (due to my financial history this is the only account they would give me!!). Thank you to everyone who posted. Great to have such comprehensive help on my first posting here.

A couple of weeks ago i brought V Festival tickets off https://www.tickettout.com, they have now gone into administration so i will not get these tickets anymore. I have been in touch with trading standards who have informed me to write to my bank and ask for chargeback. Does anybody know what this is? When i asked my bank they wasnt sure if i would be eligable and i would have to write. I have written to them but if anybody could help i would really appreciate it.

If it is a Visa then there is a possibility that you may be able to get your money back. If it is Maestro or Solo then you have very little chance of seeing that money again!
To perform a chargeback you need to contact your bank who will send out a form for you to fill in the details of why you want to do the chargeback and then send it back. If the bank accepts this, you should get your money back around a month later.0 -
Hi,
I have googled extensively but can nowhere find the wording or T&C of a visa debit card (electron Halifax) protection nor in my bank's brochure.
Can anybody help? Basically I have purchased for a service which has not been provided and I want to to chargeback the service provider - who is now about to go into administration.
