Can anyone help re this 2nd hand pc for child?

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone could give an opinion on a pc I've seen advertised for sale locally please? Its for my 6 year old who has just started taking an interest in computers since starting school. He uses our laptops at the moment for playing games but I'd prefer for him to use a desktop.

Its a Dell Dimension 5150 with 17" monitor, it has Pentium 4, 3.4ghz, Windows XP, 250GB.

Apparently it is in working order and the seller is looking for £100 ono. Any thoughts please? Thanks.

£100 for a seven year old PC doesn't look great value, even if it has an LCD monitor - you'd be looking at £50-60 on eBay for a private sale.

Having said that, as long as the games are not graphically intensive it should do anything that a child would need in a PC.

yeah, I'd offer 70 quid and see what sort of reaction you get...£75 at most. That would put it on a par with ebay price plus postage. And make sure you see it working and have a play before you make the offer :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

On a used computer' you'd have to worry that there are no viruses etc on it, in fact, any sensible buyer needs to totally re-install Windows on receiving the item. If it's never to be connected to the Internet then you need not worry much about thus though.

Might be worth looking at a refurb that is supplied with a proper installation disk and Windows license key.

A PC is sensible since if a child spills a drink it will only mean a keyboard replacement of under £10.
