Hi,
My friend told me that he received a call last week from a company telling him he was entitled to free loft insulation and this person's company can do it for free. They also said that he could have his wall cavity filled but that that would cost him.
They came to see him last week and checked his house out and said that actually the wall cavity job would be free too.
Please can someone tell me is this as impossibly good as it sounds or.....
Thank you in advance.

Mine was done last August. It was a government subsidised scheme in waltham Forest. I did have to pay part of it. I think it depends on your income. I didn't need cavity wall so just had the loft insulation. I was a bit suspicious but then saw a government minister talking about the scheme on a news programme.0 -
contact your energy supplier , i had B/G insulate my walls last year , i think they have a set allowance per house , you shouldn't have to pay anything0

I had BG do the Cavity wall. I had to pay some money has my house was 2 foot to big for their 'free' service. Cost me about £100 in the end which isn't to bad considering the savings.0

I had my loft done for £99 by a friend who works under Mark group. Apparently I was told that it is free (both cavity and loft insulation) for those who are on benefits but since I am not on benefits so I had to pay for mine. The 'free' insulation is only for a period of time tho. So, free stuff is surely too good to be true but it is!And many big energy companies are able to do both for free as well but I'm not sure about their T&C.

I had mine done for free too. That was under a government scheme. I'd check out the supplier though for quality - mine was fantastic though I've heard other people complain about one local firm. It was done through British Gas and they got the subcontractor. Be aware that whilst roof insulation is relatively risk free, cavity wall insulation does drill holes in your walls and this can be a bit unslightly afterwards if it's going to be in brick. Make sure you watch them do the work and that they do repair the holes properly afterwards (with something that matches in colour!)
As I live at the coast it has reduced my energy consumption because we are wind buffeted.0 -

had mine done free last week, your mate robbed you - everyone's currently entitled to it. the benefits thing means you can get £200 cash from a supplier doing it, but otherwise it is free. http://www.tescohomeefficiency.com/cavity-wall-insulation/ for example
Q. Is the assessment free and unconditional?
Yes!
Q. How much will it cost me?
Installing loft and cavity wall insulation is FREE, subject to survey, if no additional work is required to incur an additional charge - see below for full details.
Extra charges are only for really large houses or complicated jobs0 -
Before you have any cavity wall insulation work done, have a look here:

I had someone at our door offering it free a few weeks back. The house was built in 1911. I was tempted to have them round for a survey, just for the laugh, but couldn't be bothered.0 -
Free for all homeowners and private rentals. In many parts of Scotland a Universal Home Insulation Scheme is running until the end of September. The scheme is funded by the Scottish Government and operates in many local authority areas. It applies to all properties that can take more loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and even underfloor insulation if the space is suitable. It only excludes social housing which is funded by a different route. Contact the Energy Saving Trust (Scotland) 0800 512 012 to see if it is available to you.0

im buying in Nottingham and contacted the local councils energy section. they said cavity is free, and loft is free IF you have less than 60mm in place. if its between 60mm and 100mm you can top up (to 260mm) for £50, if you have 100mm to 160mm you can top up for £99.
That is for EVERY Owner or landlord REGARDLESS of whether your on benefits or not. Its subsidised by both government and energy companies BUT the funding will finish at the end of this year - so there taking no application after 30 Sep (it can take up to 3 months to arrange the surveys and get the work done).
Im guessing that is in Nottingham city Council area only - and there part of the subsidy included the "not receiving benefits" people as well. possibly other councils will only offer their part of the subsidy to those receiving benefits. So - Try your local council first, as they contract out to the same companies visiting your home, and all work is up to scratch (as there monitored by the council).0
