After paying for my brother's funeral there was nothing left
Sorry to hear of your loss.
If there is nothing left then they simply can't have it and it has to be written off.0 -
If someone dies, to expect money to be paid that they would have received is a bit much and shows up the company for what they are.
Businesses have to plan e.g. set up the right number of staff in customer services, so in general expecting some compensation is logical, however in the case of death it's normal and good customer service to waive any such charges.
I expect you are quite busy, but you could consider some publicity e.g. newspaper, which might help other onsumers make an informed choice. It wouldn't suprised me if Watchdog picked this up as it appears to be happening more now.0 -

Yes, commission retention is quite normal but the broker should be able to apply discretion, compassion and common sense.0 -

I agree and that is exactly what I was saying.
I would want to publicise it on TV and newspapers but I would imagine that there is a lot to do in this situation.0 -
I would advise them you are informing them that the policyholder is deceased, and if they knowingly attempt to charge any card in the deceased name after being informed of that fact, you will advise the fsa of the attempt.0

If it's quite normal then it probably means we're going to have to pay up then, this company doesn't look like they have any compassion, common sense or discretion.
I asked to speak to the managing director as i'd like him to justify charging this 'death tax' but he was in a 'meeting'. They said they'll ring me back later but i don't think i'll hold my breath on that.
Another bit of work and a few letters for the solicitor it seems0 -
If you don't pay their charges how are they going to collect them?0

They would send correspondance to the last know address.
I am pretty sure executors can't just ignore debts. They do have legal responsibilities (whether they find it morally distateful or not).
I find it morally repugnant, but that doesn't mean someone can walk away from their legal obligations. You can't choose to ignore the letter you don't like and not pay the debts that are owed.0 -
If she had paid the insurance in full when she took it out. Would there be a refund on any part of the premium?I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
