FREE Sky + (PLUS) Functionality !?

I have an old Sky + box which I havent used for a while (been using alternative cable tv options - ahem!)
I decided to plug it in to get the free channels and and heard the hard drive whirring slightly still minutes after powering up.
I tried the all the Sky+ options and they were active,,,YIPPEE! and am not a Sky subscriber.
I heard sky would be doing the functionality free but have heard nothing official.
Anyone got any similar experience or news?

oooh, fab - my contract is nearly up and i was going to re-subscribe to the full package as i dont think i could live without sky+ now but if it just works anyway Ill save myself the money!!

sky boxes (inc Sky+) give you a lot of free channels.
some are dependant on a sky card in the slot channel4 and 5 but a lot are fine without!.
generally a deactivated card will suffice but sky can deactivate the free viewing after a few months.

I can see the card only option but believe its £30 and they guarantee the card for 3-4 years of viewing.

I got sky + 2 years ago and got multi room
cancelled at xmas and then decided to take out £15 option with sky + so i'm paying £25 but they gave me the same channels on my multi room which I cancelled a year ago.0 -
