Pressed Powder

Does anyone have any recs for a pressed powder to be used over moisturiser without foundation. My skin is dry but is getting quite shiny when I have hot flushes due to the menopause, I don't like loose powders and I don't want anything that looks cakey.

Cheers

  • I use Boot's Natural Collection in 'cool' I think it's £1.99 and it gives a good natural looking finish.

I have used MAC's studio-fix pressed powder for years, with a brush rather than the pad. It gives great coverage and comes in a wide range of shades - if you've ever seen an info-mercial for "Sheer Cover", that's the effect you get - "you, only better".

Lots of magazines are raving about Bare Minerals atm but as with anything it's a case of finding what's right for you.

Aldi's pressed powder is lovely - doesn't feel cakey but gives a bit of cover and lasts well. Also in a silver mirrored compact which looks far more expensive than it is!

Hi, thank you for your replies. Can I ask, without sounding rude I hope, are you ladies middle aged like myself? Am just wondering as some people say that powder looks cakey on older women but I am fed up of looking too shiny with foundations and tinted moisturisers.

my favourite is the Max Factor Creme Puff, I have used it for years and have never been happy with anything else that I have tried

I like the texture and coverage and the smell reminds me of my nan.

hi, if you don't mind spending a bit more, i like the clinique SuperDouble facepowder, which can be used on it's own and gives good coverage - or over foundation if you wish. but it;s designed to be used and cover without using foundation. you could try mineral powders -but some can be drying. i have tried the prestige mineral foundation - which i apply lightly as though it is a face powder.

Another vote for Mac's studio fix - it was recommended to me by my make-up artist when I got married and I've been using it ever since. I'm almost 42.

Okay, one you should get one without talc in it as it with go into your lines etc. All brands mentioned so far have talc. Rice or corn starch is the best.

So the Corn thing brand which you can get in Boots no counter but on a stand with other products.

T.LeClerc more expensive but the best brand in the universe as far as I am concerned.

I think your refering to Corn Silk and I agree with T LeClerc being outstanding but very expensive, Avon do a pressed powder for mature skin which doesnt settle in lines etc and gives very good coverage, EL Doublewear is excellent for coverage but can look a bit cakey if you get oily in the day and also can be harsh on the skin but not as bad as the liquid:)
Thank you for this site Martin

    My current favourites are...

Revlon Photoready powder - it comes with a brush and it feels very smooth.

17 Shine Control pressed powder - really cheap, but definitely gets rid of any shine.

MeMeMe flawless face powder - very similar to the 17 one.

I think you would have to be amazingly heavy handed to make pressed powder look clogged on your face!
