Life Assurance, is this too much?

Hello,

My partner and I both have a level-term assurance plan with Standard Life, we took this out in 2004 and it's around about £70/mth. This is a joint plan, guranteed, and covers critical illness.

We have ASU paying about £20/mth with another company (Centerpoint Insurance), and this was all dealt with an IFA at the time of sorting out our mortgage.

We both agree that £70 is a lot of money, as we see quotes for Tesco etc at £10/mth for 35yr old smokers etc.

We don't smoke, and the cover is for £130,000. We're also 25 & 26 respectively.

I'd appreciate some advice on this :o)

Thanks in advance guys,

Adam

I think this sounds rather a lot of money. I have just had a quote from Legal & General through https://www.confused.com and it is really competative. Give them a try, I think you will find a better quote. Good luck,

Go change it. You can get far better deals than that now.

IFAs can beat Tesco. I have done recently rebrokered a Tesco policy.

There was a period in 2004 when Standard Life were well priced as I recall doing some plans back then. However, I cannot remember seeing SL come out near the top of the list for years. That often happens though. Companies seem to take it in turns like that.

We both agree that £70 is a lot of money, as we see quotes for Tesco etc at £10/mth for 35yr old smokers etc.

You do realise that your £70 covers different things to that £10? If you are going to compare, you should do it on like for like terms.
