What are your experiences with BT hotspots?

I saw this deal on O2 where they offer unlimited wifi access through BTs hotspots included in mobile broadband deals. What are your experiences with these hotspots?
Are the BT hotspots reliable in general or slow and not trustworthy for everyday use? I have a 2 bar signal strength to one of those BT hotspots and was considering joining O2 to get access to those.
