Plugging various things into a surge protected extension lead

Hi everyone

I have two double plug sockets either side of my bed and more than 4 things that I need to plug in.

I am thinking of buying either a 4 or 6 outlet surge protected extension lead and I just wanted to know whether it would have any issues with what is to be plugged in?

On one double wall socket is - a light and MP3 speakers
On the other wall socked is - a light and extension lead will be plugged in to this
Extension lead - TV power cord, telephone power cord, modem power cord & a baby monitor power cord and time to time a mobile phone charger.

I know very little about this, so forgive me - but will I be over loading it in anyway?

Reason I ask is because a while back I plugged the phone and modem into a (non surge protected - i think?) extension lead and within a couple of days the phone cord had blown up.

Cheers.

That should be fine.. I have a 4 outlet in my bedroom and it has an electric blanket plugged in, netbook, lamp/radio and a charger.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

just be aware that most 'Guaranteed' surge protectors (like Belkin to name one) will NOT cover anything linked to another extension lead or bar.
If you are buying a surge protector, I do recomend getting a guaranteed one. If anything does blow, they will cover teh cost of repair or replacement. I have claimed before with no issues.
  • There wouldnt be any extension lead plugged to another extension lead.

Just the mobile phone charger, baby monitor, modem and tv plugged into the one extension lead.

    Will this be a problem?

Fine - but check that the 1m cable is long enough for you!

i have 2 x 6 socket extension leads plugged into a double wall socket, and most of the time most of the sockets are in use. actually managed to cut down on the usage infact. no troubles at all, I would recommend getting a minimum of 2metres. it all depends of course where the wall sockets are and where you want the leads.
