Npower debt
Hi,
We're in debt with npower both gas and electric total's to around £1000, due to them only just sending us a payment card after god knows how many email's.
My partner was sent to prison before xmas so i then moved into the property and they refused to send me a card to pay whilst i was here, he's now out and emailed them for a card and then they sent us 2this week.
but we had someone from meter plus demanding to put a meter in, we can't get to the meters as they are locked up in the carpark but he said he'll come back on the 12th to fit one and they'll break though if they have to, we rent the property and it states in the agreement we are not aloud to have meters fitted.
can anyone tell me where we stand in all this??
thanks

I don't understand why the lack of a payment card prevented you paying something towards the bill?
You would only be responsible for any usage after the date you moved in. A debt of £1,000 has surely not built up since then?
It may be possible to contact the supplier, pay off a lump sum and agree a payment plan in order to stop the warrant being executed. But if previous payment plans have already been breached, then a PPM may be the only way forward.
You are entitled by law to have access to your meters, as is your supplier. if you can't access them at all, then how can you verify the bills are correct or submit readings? No free lunch, and no free laptop

thats what happened at first they estimated our bill to be £800 for 3 month which we told them was wrong and waited a further 2 month for another bill.
we couldnt make a payment without the card which we have waited months for finally get 2 and also a knock at the door within a week0 -
But you can pay by cheque, by debit or credit card over the phone, with cash at a bank-you just need the account number, which is on the bill.
If you have no access to the meters, then how did you verify the bill?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Your landlords cant stop pre-pays been installed as they do not belong to them, inregards to access you have a right to access unless it is in a large multiple meter room due to health and safety they dont allow.
On the bills dont they come with a payment slip? Im sure the reason for not speaking to you was your name not been on the account? Have you put any money aside?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -
I live in an appartment all the meters are together in a room i don't have a key to and can only get the meter reading from the landlord or when they come to read them all, ive just had the standard bill, i contacted them and asked how i pay it and if i could pay in installments and was told they'd send me a card.0

But on the bill it tells you 'ways to pay'-have you not atttempted to pay off any of it (plus your ongoing consumption)? If you are now £1,000 in debt then they're going to expect you to pay off something now, and an agreed schedule for the rest.
You need to act now and contact them, before you incur any more costs. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Yes i have attempted tp pay they told me if i wanted to pay in installments i would need a card, i couldnt afford to pay in full or dont you think i would have just paid it0

I'm aware that you can't pay in full. but my point is that you don't need any kind of card to pay something towards it. The sooner you contact them, the better. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Just remember that the supplier will pursue a warrant if they need to and your landlords agreement will count for nothing in a debt case.
If the meters are in a locked communal area, the supplier will be unable to fit one unless they can either a) ensure you have access or b) they can get a collector meter fit which just means try fit the PPM in the flay and wire it to the main meter in the communal area.
I suggest you speak to them as others have said but make them aware of the meter position as they may not have been sent this information.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
I contacted them soon as i got the bill and asked to pay it in installments on a weekly basis. as i said they said they'd send a payment card, i didnt know i could make a payment with the bill or i would of done it, they never informed me of this either, this is the first time ive had a bill so just took in what they'd told me.
I have emailed them today and explained all this, just dont want to end up getting evicted over a bill and wanted advice on where i stand.0
