Car has extra aerial and Nokia Car Kit... Taxi?

  • I still think i'm going to keep clear of it, for £2495.

Any ideas on how to get a better MPG out of my current car? Toyota Avensis 2.0 GLS Auto. I've already done the usual emptying of the boot, pumping up the tyres, and I drive at 60 on the motorway unless I really am in a rush to get somewhere.

Can they be chipped/tuned for more economical gear changes?

Could have been a sales reps car or company car.

Lots of businesses used nokia phones wired in before blue tooth got really popular.

This. I used to love having a proper car kit with external aerial in my company car. Then they started with those silly tax disc aerials and then they did away with them altogether.

I'd seer clear of diesel mondeos in general tto be honest. They DO have issues with dual mass flywheels failing and also injector faults. Whilst there's no gurantee it will happen, if it does it's a big bill and that wipes out any potential fuel savings for the year.

Driving a 2.0 auto for economy is always going to be hard, you don't have control of the gears. Just smooth driving with good anticipation and avoiding harsh acceleration or braking really. I agree though, it's a false economy to change cars in the hope of better MPG unless you do ridiculous milage, especially if you have a proven reliable car for now.

Try and drive down your other costs. Find a good cheap garage for MOT's and servicing, hunt hard for insurance deals, switch from £200 a year breakdown cover to the best deal you can find and even look at alternatives to using your car for short journeys. Can you work from home 1 day a week to save petrol money?

That said, if you can find a good Skoda Fabia 1.4 Tdi for your budget you could literally double your mpg!

There's no way I would swap a Toyota for a Ford!

(Unless it was that muscle car that Jeremy Clarkson owned for a short while a few years ago, forget the car model)

My MK3 Mondeo had that. It had been a company directors car. Believe it or not, some people do fit car kits for phones.

Taxis use 2 way radios in the main, not mobile phones.

I had a 53 and a 56 car through work both of which had fitted hands free kits as you described. Standard company car fair if you accepted hands free. My phone holder bracket would accept different cradles for different Nokia models. It also had a separate speaker unit under the passenger foot well.

Something smells wrong - Airport cars do more miles than any other taxi. They are usually in decent nick and better specced than a run of the mill taxi.

They would do 100k in a year, certainly in under 2 years. so to get one with 100k at that age would suggest either its wasnt an old airport car or its been clocked at some point.

Doesnt add up and at that point I walk away.
