tax credits award notice help please

I got my tax credits award notice a few days ago telling me how much tax credits i would be getting. My first payment was paid in to my bank account a day later. I have checked my bank account and a big amount of money has been paid in. I am guessing this is backdating payment for the last 3 months?? The award notice never mentioned anything about backdating payments. Should the award notice of had the backdating payments on it? Do you think i need to phone them up? Or should i just accept that they have paid me the backdated money? I thought they would of sent me a letter telling me they have paid me the backdated money. I just don't want to spend the money if it is a mistake.

Thank you :)

I would just give them a call to be sure and put your mind at rest, that way if it is backdated payments....happy spending :)
