Who will carry out the Energy Certificates?

There is absolutely NO doubt whatsoever that it will happen - HIPS were always about the Energy Certificate from day one (as this is an EU requirement that all homes have to have by around 2012 and which the UK government did not want to have to pay for themselves), but this was originally buried and wrapped up with the misleading promotion of "improving the buying & selling" process as if the gov were doing us a favour.

Now that climate change is all the rage, the gov are rubbing their hands with glee with the fact that they can now claim kudos for introducing the energy report as their latest green "achievement" set to improve all our lives... timing is everything.
  • No doubt this unnecessary extra bureaucracy will attract VAT.

Absolute rubbish. I'm so pleased that I do not intend to sell my current home.

Why is there no 'poll-tax-style' outrage?

Will VAT on heating fuel be abolished for homes with this piece of paper? I thought not!

EDIT to add: How will all these HIP inspectors driving around to various homes benefit the environment?

    I'm not a supporter.

George, It's not a question about being a supporter - it's an EU directive, as has already been said.

... and so many directives come from the EU. It seems only the UK adopts the directives without a fight.

I've recently been to a seminar regarding DEA's (Domestic Energy Accessors) which proved very interesting.

The only worry I have would be the market could well be flooded with these accessors in approx 12 months time. Of course you would have the option of becoming a fully competent Home Inspector which is where I see the scope for a career.

Does anyone know if the Government have excluded the HCR until more HI's are available thus making in mandatory further down the line?

Also for the DEA's would anyone suggest that maybe working in a less populated area would be of more benefit on the grounds of less competition?

I ask as where I live we apparantly only have 3 HI's so far???
