Hi all,
I have the free avast virus protection on my laptop, does anyone know (roughly) the size of the virus database updates when you first load the laptop, if its done daily.
The reason i ask is that i'm needing my laptop this weekend and will have no internet apart from tethering on my Iphone so dont want to download huge amounts just for the update, ideally i would like to turn the update off but not sure if its safe to do so and dont know how either.
Thanks

If you turn off the updates then all you will lose are any updates sent for the duration it is off. The program itself still operates, it just won't update to the latest virus patterns. For a couple of days, the risk is fairly negligible.
The updates can vary in size, there is no standard. No free lunch, and no free laptop
