How do I use internet explorer with AOL?

Hi,
My ISP is AOL, & I was hoping someone could tell me how to program my pc to use Internet Explorer instead of AOL's browser. I know it's possible as thats's how I'm accessing the net at the moment.
Little brother has kindly decided that I can have his old pc, so I would really appreciate someone telling me how to avoid using AOL's overly colourful, noisy, memory eating browser.
Thanks in advance,
Helen

you connect up as normal. When connected just minimise the aol windows and open explorer. Should be fine.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

Do yourself a favour and get rid of the AOL bloatware from your system using this. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Alternatively, you can do THIS which was posted on this very site, it just took me some time getting round to finding it
I have nothing better to do!!!!

Here it is again............LINK
or instructions are now here, as posted by ALi137, i use it myself so it works
Setting up a connection with AOL so you can remove their software:
1. Make sure you are disconnected from AOL via their software.
2. Start -> Connect To -> Show All Connections.
3. Double-Click "New Connection Wizard".
4. Hit "Next".
5. Make sure "Connect to the internet is selected" and hit "Next" again.
6. Select "Set up my connection manually" and hit "Next".
7. Select "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password" and hit "Next".
8. In the "ISP Name" box enter something to describe it to you. SOmething like "AOL Broadband" will do you.
9. Enter your User Name in the box - Something like "KeSmi747@aol.com" then enter the password you use to connect to AOL in each of the boxes below. Hit "Next".
*** IMPORTANT - you must get your username right and the standard format is the first two letters of your first name, the first three letters of your last name, then three random numbers, not forgetting that you also need to include "@aol.com". The example above is what Kevin Smith's AOL username might be. ***
10. Hit "Finish".
At this point you can stop and simply connect to AOL by going Start -> Connect To -> AOL Broadband, but I recommend taking the next few steps and having your connection always on.
11. In the box that comes up hit "Properties". (This box can also be brought up by going Start -> Connect To -> AOL Broadband)
12. Goto the "Options" tab and increase the "Redial attempts" to 100, then change the "Time between redial attempts" to 1 second.
13. On this same screen uncheck the box labelled "Promt for name and password, certificate, etc." Hit "OK".
14. Open Start -> Connect To -> then left-click and drag "AOL Broadband" to your desktop to create a shortcut.
15. Right-Click the new shortcut and select "Cut".
16. Right-Click the Start button and select "Open".
17. Open "Programs" then "Start Up".
18. Right-Click in the blank space and select "Paste".
That's it - now when you log into windows your AOL connection will automatically connect itself and stay conencted.
I have nothing better to do!!!!

A good idea to get rid of AOL's rubbish, plus you'd be better off with Firefox than IE.0

Thanks Startrekker, that's the exact information I was looking for! :T0

use a router. so much simpler.
theres no AOL SW on my puter at all. my user name and PW is in the router.
and thats it!
my router is always on. when i fire up the pc, it connects automatically, i never see anything except my home page, google.
im not even sure what my AOL username/PW is! its that long since ive used it.Get some gorm.0 -
On the same lines ...
I have given up waiting for aol to send me broadband (8 weeks so far!) and have now got another broadband provider.
It works a treat except I cant get to aol's site(I'm using IE). I phoned aol support who told me to try it again removing the firewall. This I did. Then they said if that didnt work (which it didnt) to make sure that javascript was checked in IE. Which it is.
So I'm stuffed .. and I need to get to my aol emails :-(
I put www.aol.co.uk in the URL place and it converts it to
https://myscreenname.aol.com/.............
it tries to access it and gives up saying
"The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable"
I think it may be to do with McAfee can anyone help pleeeeese?0
