No Claims Discount query

Hi
New member here - and i have a query re my NCD. I have had my car since 2008 and for the first year I was on a provisional licence, and as a result I didnt count this year in when I insured my car for the second year. Since then I've found out that this does count - so this year I asked for 4 years NCD - to be told that because I can only confirm the four years in two documents (from different insurance companies - but they do cover the whole period - I just changed insurers), that they can only take into account the confirmation from the last insurere which doesnt contain the provisional years discount.
Are they allowed to do this? It seems mad as I have the written proof of all the years insurance for the car from when I bought it with the NCD confirmed for the whole of that period.
Any ideas anyone?

They will only give you what you can prove (ie usually what your latest renewal shows).
Your missed out year is probably "lost", though worth trying to explain (assuming you have a paper trail to show the full entitlement), but the difference in premium between 4 and 5 years NCD may not be too much anyway.0
