ATM took card

Options
hi

yesterday i used an ATM, and at the end of the transaction the screen read "please take your card and your cash", but neither actually come out.

I phoned the bank to cancel the card, and they told me that the money would be credited to my account over night, but today it is still not there. I called them again and they told me as yesterday was not a working day it will be tonite before it is credited, and if it is not to go into a branch and fill out a form to reclaim it, and if they agree with me that the money did not come out, it will be credited in 10 days  prob longer with the easter holidays

does anyone have any experince of this, and can let me know roughly how long it did take to get their money back (its a Northern Ireland bank if that makes any difference)

thank you,

Sounds like it was a fault with the ATM if the transaction was authorised but failed to dispense cash or return the card. Your bank's advice is correct, the most likely scenario is that the reversal will be processed automatically tonight (it's possible it could happen tomorrow night, but tonight is favourite), but if it doesn't happen then they will be able to get the money back for you.

did you stay with your bank card for a while? As i hope its not but it could be scammed as they put an extra piece of plastic over the top and keep your card and cash. If it is I would be contacting the police too as it could have happened to others

i did, i stayed cause i had tweezers in my bag and it was just sitting inside the machine and i could have retreived it, but then it disappeared, and i phoned the bank and cancelled it. The screen then read "this ATM is out of use"

the transaction is still listed on my account as a withdrawal, im just a bit worried, like £130 is A LOT of money to me, and i cant afford to loose it, i am just worried i will never get it back,

Don't worry unduly, you are 99.99% certain to get it back, and 99% of that is that it will be put back in your account automatically as I said in my previous post.

i had to go into my branch today and fill out a form to claim it back as it was not automatically refunded last night, and is not due to be refunded today or tonight,

they told me it could take 3 / 5 days to get it back, so thats next week i suppose with the holidays:mad:

You have to remember that the ATM knows how much money it has inside of it and someone has to come to fill it up, I imagine it will automatically tell the owner that it needs to be filled so that they can do so. When they open the ATM and notice the difference as to what the ATM reports it has and what it actually has they will then follow the audit logs.

Unless of course you've unfortunately been caught by a fraudster, in which case it will be much more difficult.

I wouldn't tamper with the machine if I were you in future. Some ATMs can detect tampering and shut themselves down.
