Hubby has been asked to take a pay cut or be made redundant. Does he have to agree?

    What's the redundancy package?

if statutory then the weeks pay is capped at £430 so a pay cut may not make any difference to the actual payout.

6 months more service might clock up another year, notice is allready maxed out at 12 weeks.

Loss of vehicle will reduce the tax liability and will they pay mileage for business use?

There is no redundancy package, just the statutory redundancy pay. Yes a further six months employment would give another year's payment, but the amount he would loose in income would more than negate this.

So what has changed if hubby still gets use of the van during the day. The upside is that he does not have the tax liability for using it to commute to work.

The main part of the question was asking if he has to accept the pay cut or can he ask to be made redundant? If he is made redundant immediately would he still get a notice period if he takes it as volutary redundancy? If he accepts it as a temporary measure will his eventual redundancy payment be based on his pay now or with the pay cut (if it was classed as temporary).

No he doesn't have to accept the pay cut and yes he can ask for redundancy if they go down that route.

However there is no guarantee the he will be accepted for redundancy so you need to think what happens next.
