This must surely exist as it would be useful!
Say I am interested in a particular topic e.g. sausages. (That's just an example. I'm veggie in reality!)
If I wanted to know whenever sausages were mentioned in the national press or on the BBC website - in other words on major websites - so I could find the articles online in time to comment, is there a way of getting notification of that?
What I'm constantly finding is that when I search for the things I'm interested in, I find the articles but the comments section is already closed so I'm not able to participate in the discussion.
There must surely be a better way of doing it..... I don't have time to manually trawl every newspaper site every day!

Check out Google Alerts - http://www.google.com/alerts
You can have an email for each new with Google indexes, or a RSS feed. Make sure your search terms are quite specific otherwise you'll end up being flooded.
You can use site: function on Google search to specify pages from a particular site, e.g. site:bbc.co.uk0 -
Google Alerts is a good option as suggested as you can choose email alerts or rss feeds for the results.. If you are searching for a phrase use speechmarks like "cumberland sausages" so that you only get back relevant results. For more ways to narrow down your results check this page:

I've got one set up on my name as it's not very common. Although through Google alerts I found out I share it with a wife-beater
