I did get full value out the pads as they were metal on metal for the last week until the parts arrive and I got a chance to do them.

So you were driving around for a week with no brakes.

I don't even know what to say about that.

Really? Where did he say in his post that he had removed the front brakes?

Brakes still work when down to the metal, they just kill the discs. If you know what you're doing and you're aware of the situation (i.e. you drive accordingly), then it isn't a huge problem.

Brakes can be pretty bad before they fail the MOT brake test. Ours passed the MOT, but one side of the front brakes were ineffectve due to corrosion on the inner face of the disc and the inner pad not making contact with it.

Lack of use can also kill brakes as they corrode.

i know we all have to be loving and kind on here but please dont come out with clap like its fine to drive a car with no material on the pads and metal to metal is no big deal
you are probably the same person who once told me he doesnt like seatbelts so wont wear them and if hes in a crash hes going to brace himself with his hands held tight on the wheel
i sometimes think ive heard it all in this job then someone comes up with statements like yours

But it's true. I've had a car (that I only needed another two months use out of) pass an MOT with metal on metal brakes. The tester did advise me to get new pads and discs.
