You cannot pay into your Halifax account at the PO - it's not a service offered (withdraw cash, yes, not pay in)
This would seem to suggest otherwise (for those particular accounts):

I think you'll find the coinstar charge is about 8% now.

We build up copper because sometimes it's tempting to 'round it up' or just to chuck a bit of silver at the cashier. I'm making an effort at the moment to use up my small coins. Which means counting out 9p instead of passing across a 10p coin etc etc. I 'encourage' myself to do this by replacing some of the silver in my purse with copper. You soon clear a backlog this way - though I do find it a bit embarrassing (especially with a queue tut tutting behind me :o)

Give it to a charity shop, they'll spend the time counting and bagging it and you'll feel better for having done a good deed.

How about the self service checkout ?

    :)

THIS. Don't overdo it though. My gf used to keep coppers before we got together, first thing I did when we moved in with each other was to go to Sainsbury's and dump the lot (in lots of £1).

Also, when buying lunch or something, and the total ends in a non-multiple of 10p, pay the pennies with coppers and the rest with a note, e.g. £3.87, pay £10.07 or £5.07 or even £20.07. You'll end up with a lot of 10p and 20ps but you can deal with those later.

You'll get rid of them in 2 months.

One of the advantages of using plastic wherever possible is that you accumulate very little loose change.

You will find larger branches of Natwest Barclays and HSBC have coin counting machines that will pay the funds directly into your account.

some types of self-scan tills have a slot where you have to put the coins in individually, others have a sort of chute where you can put in a load of coins.

I think my local Sainsburys has a chute but my Asda and Tesco you have to put them in one at a time...
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
