    I fully agree with using Libre Office.

    It is an improved version of Open Office and includes all the latest file formats including .docx

    And, of course, it's free!

    Because OO and LLO both support MS Office?
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Thanks for the info. I will get her to check with school to see if she can get MS Office cheaply.

    If not then will have to teach her to use libre office
    Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

    Of course, they are the competitors to Microsoft Office - it's up to them to try to do all the officey things that Microsoft originated. Microsoft couldn't really care about other providers of Office software unless they get too large a market share and cause them to lose £lots of the money which they rely on to keep the business going.
