Call the police as this is an illegal eviction. First call Shelter now for emergency advice.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

Might be wrong but I thought you were supposed to be given 8 weeks notice on a periodic tenancy (after AST runs out).
Regardless of this and whether its right or wrong what the landlord is doing...if you were given until 30th March and didnt write to question it, which i'm assuming you didnt as you haven't mentioned doing so...why didn't you move out on 30th March????
Think there may be something else to this story you haven't mentioned!0 -
I thought it was 4 weeks notice from the next rent due date.
might be worth nosing on direct.gov.uk
and you've not paid rent for the last 4 weeks ?
what about the deposit ? .....Is it protected (held by a 3rd party) ?Am the proud holder of an Honours Degree

Sorry, is it just me???
The LL asked you to move out with 4 weeks notice, you didn't contest it, didn't pay any rent for last month and asked for the deposit to be used for this purpose...then you didn't move out and now you want to know if you can call the police and take the landlord to court????
What you going to take him to court for??? On what charge exactly?????
If you didn't challenge the request for you to move out at the time it was issued what on earth did you expect to happen come the 30th March???0 -

It's just you. The police can get involved as it is illegal to evict someone like this. 2 months notice is required and if the tenant has not left then the landlord must go to court to get possesion. The police will be able to charge the landlord with illegal eviction then the matter will go to court but the tenant will get the property back whether the rent is up to date or not. Eventually once the landlord does get possesion then the landlord may get a CCJ against the tenant for rent arrears.
Shelter will give the correct advice.
Yes but shouldn't the lack of correct notice given have been addressed when the OP actually received the eviction notice? Instead of contesting at the time, OP has agreed to this by not paying the last month's rent and asking for the deposit to be used to pay it. If the law is on OP's side then it is even more flawed than I ever thought!0 -
