How about you work for your pride if your priviledged enough to be able to afford that and let those that are struggling deal with the reality of life?

The "reality of life" is working for a living, unfortunately for those who'd rather do nothing.

I want to maximise my benefit entitlement
I don't want to work too hard
I want to stay where I am and to do so I need the benefit system to pay for it.

You mean work out how you can sit at home watching Jeremy Kyle whilst maximising your benefit income and doing the least in return which seems to be a common theme coming from many contributors to this thread.

Makes me so mad I would consider voting Conservative at the next election.

I would rather not do nothing at all. I would rather be working but working leaves me worse off so I can't take a low paid job of any sort due to the 96% withdrawal of benefits. The 4% that I get to keep does not cover the cost of transport getting to/from work.

I personally am kind of looking forward to the lower 76% marginal deduction rate that universal credits will bring but I still feel the MDR is too high. It should be 50% or no higher that the highest rate of tax that a high earner would pay.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

They aren't going to win the next election because they've reduced benefits to virtually everyone who claims tax credits and housing benefit - that's millions of householders they've hacked off, and this isn't just workless households, this is the working poor.

And the working middle class. Once several million people - who don't feel in the least bit well off - realise they're paying 40% tax, and when the mortgages they're paying have interest rates on the up again, they'll be seriously pished.

I think the lunacy is that between council tax benefit and housing benefit they take off about 85% of any net extra you earn. However, they do not allow you expenses prior to these deductions so that if it costs you £20 to go and do this extra work, you could actually lose £5 a week by working !

If that is not a disincentive to work then I do not know what is.

But why shouldn't they do this? Its called standing on ones own two feet. It is completely unfeasible to put in a system to account for expenses.

So what's the solution.......let Labour back in.......do you honestly think they will suddenly give everyone their benefits back? Labour are the one who caused the mess in the 1st place with the overly-generous benefit system enjoyed by millions for years........Tories are at the complete other end of the spectrum - making massive cuts which in turn affects a lot of people, but I can see why some of it has to be done because the current system is unsustainable. Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of the Tories as they have decided that I am too well paid and have imposed a pay freeze which has no sign of ever ending, and a real time pay cut, however benefits, under Labour, were (and some still are) so generous, that millions of families got so used to the income that they either didn't have to work or worked the bare minimum.
The Tories never hid their agendas, yet if everyone who moans about them voted against them then they wouldn't have got in power in the 1st place........although I wonder what the state of the country would be if Labour were still giving away money left right and centre.
Oh well..........only at least another 4 years to go.......

If Scotland leaves the union, then the Tories will get in. Labour needs the Scots' votes.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
