Help with getting deposite back.

need a bit of advise for my mate:

"Basically I am living with 2 other girls and one of the girl's parents own the flat. We are all in different years ie i am 2nd yr medicine, the other girl 3rd year biochem and the one who owns the flat is 4th year medicine.

Anyways just last night i found out the parents are gonna redo the kitchen during my exams in april. The daughter has just had her exams this week so she will be minimally affected. I really cannot take this hassle during my April exam period. The boiler is being removed so there will be no hot water, no heating, we probably cannot shower etc. Also since they are redoing the kitchen there is no place to cook and the whole thing will last 3 weeks but no guarantee.

I honestly tried speaking to the girls parents about this and asking if they could do it after my exams but she says they cannot change the dates. There was no mention of this in my contract but there is little i can do about it since it is going ahead. The only choice i have is to move out because i cannot have my exams affected in any way."

Ok what happened now is shes found a place and wants her £700= deposite back but the landlords are away on holiday. She asked there daughter for something writtern saying she will get it back but she says when her parents are back they will give it back end of. What should my mate do?

umm any help ? basically friends moving out of place and the landlords away, she hasnt got anything from them writtern saying she will get it back even though she has to move as they are renovating?
  • It's up to the landlord to give the deposit back, not the landlords' daughter. The landlords' daughter can't make that decision on the landlords' behalf.

Is the person moving out in a fixed term contract, and if so, when does this expire?
