Well, as luck would have it, dh has just opened his mail, and has a letter from MBNA, offering 0% on balance transfers until May 2013, so I think that is the way to go!!

He's going to transfer them this evening. The next account is more difficult to do a straight forward balance transfer, so I think what we might have to do, is pay it onto another card, then transfer it across, unless someone knows another way to do it!

MBNA allow Super Balance Transfers so you ask for how much you need to be paid into your bank account from MBNA card and then use it to pay off Next. When your husband rings them ask about this and see if this is also on 0% offer

Does anyone have any letter templates for me to close the Barclaycard and Halifax accounts please?

We've transferred those 2 so that'll save over £70 a month in interest fees alone :)

Just ring them once the transfers have gone through and the balances are zero and ask them to close the accounts.

Dh has just been searching online at house insurance policies, and we've found one that is suitable for us at just £15 a month, we're currently paying £37 a month so a saving of £22 a month. Unfortunately, the company wasn't on quidco so we're not able to get any cash back, but we're more than happy with the saving:)

Well done; you've made a great start today:T
Bet you're feeling rightly pleased with yourself. The savings in interest on the cards will make such a difference. P.S Did you find out from MBNA about Super Balance Transfer so you can pay Next?

Next task with your new MSE brain engaged: Drum down the cost of the piano lessons. We have faith in you; you can do this :)

We haven't found out about the next yet, we did the balance transfers online, and then started searching for home and contents insurance, and the evening has gone! On our list to do tomorrow evening,

The piano lessons are no change I'm afraid (I'm scared to post that!). There is only 1 other teacher around here, and she charges the same. They've been going to this lady for over 5 years now, she's like family to us, I know there should be no room for sentiment but, I new to all this, and I'm not sufficiently tough yet! Please don't be angry with me, I will negotiate on anything and everything, but this for me, has to be the last...

Ahh bless you; no one here is going to be angry with you.

You've made a great start this evening with transferring your cards to 0% and saving quite a hefty sum in interest charges and getting the insurances down by so much per month.
You should be very pleased with yourselves; sorry if i made you feel down or guilty about anything:o

You haven't, I am so grateful for your time and help, youve all made me realise that I can get this sorted.

I am 40 now and all I could see was a lifetime of debt and bills, but now I'm feeling a sense of power to overcome it.

I've got things listed on eBay too, I made £60 last month and used that to pay some of the littlewoods off as in October the buy now pay later deal ends, so am trying to chip away at hat before then too :)

I understand that. What persuaded me to go back to work was that it was the only way I could afford to keep up my piano lessons - and I'm not even good at it!

There will be other corners you can cut before you need to look at that if it's so important to you.

    Morning Rhibi
Just a quick thought. When does the 0% end on the original amount you already have on the MBNA card? It may be worh checking with Barclaycard before you close the account; if they are likely to offer you a 0% deal, or low interest rate for life of balance to move the 6k ish from MBNA to when the original 0% is due to end
