    That seems steep.

Our allotment association has just got hold of butts for only for £5. £35 seems a rip off. Take a trip to your local salvage yard/building supplies and ask about for blue barrels (210 litres) or IBC tanks (1000) litres).

I suppose if you want the tank green you have to pay the money.

Here's a link to inspire your search. I wished I lived within trailer visit of them.

    Cheers

South west water use the same company, as yorkshire water.

Its a nationwide rip off, sorry a market driven service to help customer meet their environmental desires (and make a fast buck in the process).

It just shows these monopolies have no real interest in us saving water, unless there's profit in it for the shareholders.

    Cheers

I aint paying almost £40, hell I only got a small garden most of the plants will be in tubs or baskets, it will take a while to recoup that with water usage.

Bit of a jump from £35 to £40.
  • Wickes sell 220L butts for £21.99. That's just the butt, though - no connecting kit (use a piece of hosepipe wedged through a tight hole in the side) or stand (use a few housebricks).

I've just had a leaflet through from Blackwall, they are selling 220 litre capacity water butts (935mmH x 665mmD) for £15, with a free rain diverter kit (worth £10).

It seems you pre order, then go and pick up when they are in your area.

    Horsham and Southampton 18th March
    Brighton, Birchington, Rochester 25th March

There is a phone number where you can order if you can't make their sales days - 08451306565, and they will deliver to you for £5. Hmm just googled and this council is using the same company but it's a lot dearer!! skr00ge must be right! ;)

Don't know if that's any help to you :confused:

I propose to use the brown wheelie bin that our council gave us for recycling food waste, don't have any it all goes on the compost heap or to the birds, as a water butt.

I would advise anyone to avoid Blackwall. I ordered 3 waterbutts (£29.95 each including stands and connector kits) last March through an offer with Thames Water. Despite constant chasing, they didn't arrive until September.

This meant I had to use tap water and a watering can all summer

Their customer service was absolutely appalling - they didn't call back when they said they would and none of their "advisors" knew what they were talking about. When the water butts eventually did turn up, the delivery man said that there were hundreds of customers with problems, some ending up with extra water butts and some with none because they had no idea where they'd delivered them

In fairness I did hear on radio 4 last Summer that companies were having problems with demand as they far exceeded normal demands, probably due to nice Summer we had, orderes were taking months because of demands.
