Ipaq

Hi guys

Please can someone help, I am going mental trying to sort out my IPAQ. I made the mistake of leaving it in a drawer and unfortunately the battery went dead completely. Upon restarting it the whole thing has reset itself, and when I try to restore it, it won't restore to the original file. How do I set it to do this, have tried everything in the IPAQ for Dummies book and it isn't working. It simply won't restore from the folder I want it to, I have 5 different IPAQ backup folders on my pc.

Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated as I'm so stressed that I've lost everything that was on it.

Thanx

  • Hi,

If I recall, it is something to do wiht the localisation settings. If your device thinks it is USA based, then set it to UK, or vice versa.

I think that restore only works with the device set to USA - but it is a long time since I had to do that.

    Hope that's it!

    Best of luck,

    White.

    Hi White,
Thanx so much for your help, was starting to think about throwing the whole thing out the window, but after the fourth time of trying the same thing, it finally restored itself properly, not sure why the first three times didn't work, but now it's good again, have to remember not to leave it lying in a drawer again.
I used to back up my stuff to a memory card, but the memory cards were constantly being corrupted for some reason and would read empty when I knew there was stuff on it. Don't really know what to do because I'm to scared to put anything on it now, or even on a memory card because I always lose stuff on it. Was told to buy a new handheld pc that does not use microsoft as a basis, because they're not reliable or user friendly, but cannot afford a new one.
Thanx again and have a nice evening.

  • Hi,

Glad you got it sorted. If you keep an eye out for a windows mobile 5 device, the memory is protected in case of power loss. You can have one in a drawer for weeks, charge it up, and all your data is there. That has been out for a while now - maybe some second hand ones around if you keep your eyes open!

    Best wishes,

    White.

Thanx so much, will look out for one, I don't use it all the time because I get frustrated by the lack of reliability, but will look out for a new one and hopefully get my act together and try something a bit more reliable next time.
