Private Renting- housing benefit??
Comments
-
If you private rent you need LHA (Local housing allowance) not Housing Benefit. Look at your local council to see what the allowance is in your area.
You will struggle to find a LL who relies on others to pay their rent (I am a LL and certainly don't).

Most tenants on HB are more likely to cause a landlord problems with rent payments than someone that is working full time - fact!!
I too have friends that are LL, they wouldn't touch anybody who claims HB, even with a guarantor - too much trouble!!0 -
I want to start shortlisting housing- if it's a long-term contract, surely they can't kick me out after so long? I've heard that people on HB in private housing get kicked out suddenly cos its not protected? I need a permanent home
Any advice or help? Or should I just go to CAB?
You have got to be joking!!!
Other than HA properties, the best that you will find, if you can find a landlord to accept you, is a 12 month lease. Most will only offer an unsecured 6 month one.
I know of many that move regularly every 6 months because the landlord increases the rent too much. Some may have moved 10 times in 5 years!!0 -

I agree and thought that was my point!

You can be working full time and claim housing benefit if your income is low. Lots of benefits are 'in work' benefits - tax credits, housing and council tax benefit, DLA etc

Really Morlock? Then why do my husband and I get Local Housing allowance not housing benefit? We are renting privately.
Local Housing Allowance is the amount of Housing Benefit received. You are claiming and receiving Housing Benefit.
"If you are a private tenant renting a property or room from a private landlord and you are on a low income, you may be able to claim and receive Local Housing Allowance."
"If you are renting a property or room from a private landlord, the Local Housing Allowance is used to work out how much Housing Benefit you get."

Source for this fact please?[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
Source for this fact please?
I read this report on the Shelter website when they did a case study, dammed if I can find it now, though have a google if you can and see if you can find it.
The issue was all about the move from paying the LL direct to giving it to tenants direct and asking them to pay.
It all stemmed from "taking ownership" and promoting doing a budget etc and failed.
Since the government changed to paying claiments direct rather than the LL a whole raft of LLs pulled out the market and now refuse to rent to those who claim, myself included.

But all those, except for DLA, are means tested and would indicate that the prospective tenant was on a very low income.0 -

Found it

Read that or the summary from here :

Now tell me, you have a house to rent... LHA or working tenants?

Don't worry about Cit_K - all employers and landlords are intrinsically evil and all claimants are vulnerable and exploited...0
