She should give her embassy a call to get there advice.

High Commission. Canada is a Commonwealth country so has a High Commission, not an Embassy.

I don't know what the rules are for the UK, but this is a fairly common thing in other countries where I've known Brits living long term on tourist visas and every now and then they have to do what's known as a "visa run" ie cross the border into another country when their visa expires and then return on another new tourist visa.

However, each country does have different rules about how long you have to be out of the country for before you can return and the number of repeat tourist visas you can get.

I know the UK is strict about showing you can financially support yourself if you do come on a tourist visa as we've had to provide info on this when my husband's family came to visit us.

  • You don't need a visa for the UK if you're from Canada. Thats if you're visting the UK

Same rules as they applied to me, I didn't need a visa for the UK as I am from Australia. I was allowed to stay 6mths and not work.

    You told us that
    • you are a national of Canada.
    • you are coming to UK to Visit.
    • you are normally and legally living in Canada.
What do you need to do?

If you are coming to the UK for a short visit (up to 6 months), you generally do not need a visa.
However, you should bring documents with you to show our immigration officers when you arrive at the UK border.
The Visiting the UK section describes the different categories of visitor visa, and lists the types of document that you may want to provide. It also explains the conditions of your stay as a visitor.
Although you do not need a visa, you may want to obtain one before you travel (for example, if you have a criminal record or you have previously been refused permission to enter the UK). And you will need a visa if you want to come here in some categories of visitor (such as a visitor for marriage or civil partnership). The Visiting the UK section contains more information.

Not sure if I was allowed to leave for a week or so and then come back for another 6mths.

I live here on a right of abode status as my mum is British. However I am on my Australian passport so that only permits me to live anywhere in the UK.

I went onto home office, uk border agency to find the above info out.

I came to the UK to stay with my boyfriend for 6 months then I went back home for 3 months ( my Bf wanted me to come back asap but I wanted to stay with my family for a bit and also did the fiance visa while there) I came back and we got married in the next 6 months.
Apart from the big visa fees, it was not difficult, my boyfriend was earning a normal wage, we were not asked to provide bank statements with lots of £££ , my Bf actually did not have savings at that point.
All what he had to prove was that the relationship was genuine, emails, phone calls, letters, cards, plane tickets....

Can she not apply to be a student? Prehaps a 1 or 2 year course just to save the hassle of travelling?
