Hi All,
My wife and I are looking at moving to the Oakham area 9from Forest of Dean).
We have visited Oakham and Melton and felt Oakham to be the one which suits us best.
Our aim is to save money on traveling costs when going to town and visiting family ageing mother in law, but still maintaining a ruralish lifestyle.
We are Looking for a 3 Bed House/Bungalow and would like to have Bath/shower room with C and seperate WC downstairs.
we would prefer to be within a 10 minute walk of the town.
We would appreciate some idea of quietish areas.
We would also like to be within easy walking distance of a reasonably lively community active Church denomination not necessarily important.
Thanks
Ted

I'm moving there this year with my husbands work so will be interested in this thread too.
All the reports I have had from friends who live, or have lived in the vicinity is that it is a lovely area to be.Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0 -
Rutland is considered one of the best places in England to live. Oakham is the larger of the only 2 towns in the county. With a population of only 10,000 the town does lack some amenities, e.g. A + E hospital, entertainment venues.
But there are local shops, a railway station with direct links to Leicester and Peterborough, plus Rutland Water and many lovely villages within a 10 mile radius. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
It's a lovely part of the country to live in! I live around 15 miles away just outside Stamford.
The town itself is great! Good luck!0
