Help!! What does this mean?

SCENARIO:

(1) We have two computers which are connected wireless.
(2) My computer is connected by hardwire.
(3) My wife's computer has been working fine and was ok last night. This morning she attempted to log on with her password and got this error message.
(4) ERROR MESSAGE: The system can not log you on due to following error: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Please try again or consult your system administrator.

(5) We can not get anything to include the control panel. What do we do?

You could try restarting both computers and also your router.

If problem persists, make sure the sign in screen on wife's PC has the correct username and domain (if any), ensuring the password is entered in the correct case (check Caps Lock in case that is on by mistake)

If still no good, try disconnecting it from the router.

Still won't start - then run it in "safe mode" and perform a system restore.

you can access safe mode by tapping f8 at boot

    Many thanks.

We are now in safe mode. Which option do we use? The only option that says restore states: Directory services restore mode (windows domain controllers only)

We have tried different options that it gives and each time it asks for the log on which brings up the previous error messages.

It has the heading Administrator and says type your password. Upon entering the password and pressing enter - the log on message comes up with the error message.

We have just tried hooking her computer up to router via R54 ? cable. Nothing changed, same message.

There should be an option at that point to expand the details which will tell you what you are trying to log on to. Make sure it is set to the local machine and not a domain server
