Spare Cash - What Shall I Do?

A bit of a sensitive subject, and probably a controversial one posting on a forum, but as this place is the bees knees for making money, I'd like some help:)
Basically, I am a student living at home and have few living costs to pay. With money coming in from a part time job, student finance and a scholarship, I believe that I am financially secure to invest a few £1000's in something to make money in the future. I am just trying to find the thing to invest in and not that knowledgeable about ISA's/shares/best savings accounts etc.
What should I do with the spare money I have just lying within a 'standard current account'? Any help much appreciated.

Would it not be best to pose this sort of question on the savings/investment board, where the savings/ investment peeps hang out.?

The interest from a current account is usually very low, but i think it really depends on
1. whether you need access to the cash quickly
2. if the cash is available now or if it will be coming from a monthly ammount.
I have an e -isa which i believe is about 3 % interest, for £250, i gain 19p, i use it to transfer money out of my current acount until the payment due so it never accumualtes higher than that currently.
I also have a regular savers account where i cannot touch the money for the year and I put in a set amount each month, which gains me 8% ( but i think this may have been a deal with my account)0
