Ex-LL wants new address details

hello,

Not sure if I'm just being padentic here but my ex-landlord has requested forwarding address details for me, she says its for the deposit scheme. I 've had a look on the dps website and there is no mention of this. I didnt want to give her my forwarding address as she has been unpleasant, interfering and difficult - is there a way around it?

Thanks

Say you're going travelling and set up a PO box for a month.

Depends how much you don't want her to have your new address ;-)

Which deposit scheme? But yes, if you want to know what is going on with the scheme and your deposit you'll need to inform the scheme how to contact you.

Alternative could be the LL tells scheme to deduct entire deposit. Scheme contacts you at old address. You fail to repsond, so scheme releases deposit to LL.

But yes, you can use any address temporarily as long as you will receive the mail.

Its with DPS. I've been through the (tenant) repayment request and there is no mention of needing an address.

So if there is a problem (a deduction) then is this when they need an address?

Can it not be done online?

If the deposit company has your address, then I can't see why the landlord needs it. PO Box if insistenet, otherwise, tell her not going to happen.

There doesnt seem to be somewhere to imput my new address details..... at least on the personal details page or on the requesting a return. I'm wondering if its only required if the LL is claiming there to be a problem.
  • If the deposit scheme are likely to send correspondence to your old address, could you use Royal Mail redirection to ensure you receive the letters?

I would ring the deposit scheme, notify them of your new address and confirm they will not give these details to the land lord as that is a breach of data protection. After all it must be common for the tenant to have a new address.

The landlord does not require your new address. Given what you have said about them I certainly wouldn't be supplying it or a new phone number.

Put redirection in for your old address with royal mail.

    hello,

I put a redirection in place sometime ago but wasnt sure whether this was a suitable way to go about things....

I will give the dps a ring on Tuesday after the bank hol to see where I stand.
  • I might've got the wrong end of the stick here... but tomorrow isn't a bank holiday (Monday 9th April is though!)
