Paying Stamp Duty to Inland Revenue

BBC
I have recently moved into a new house, and my solicitor (who is fantastic) dealt with all the relevant paperwork. However, Inland Revenue wrote to me saying that the stamp duty was not paid in time and that I had incurred a penalty of £100 incurring interest daily.
I contacted my solicitor who explained to me that he had already wrote to IR about this penalty and told them the payment was made on time and sent by special delivery post so my solicitor has a record of it.
Solicitor told me that the IR try to do this all the time, they basically have a back log and try claim that paperwork is classed as received when they start processing it, but this is not the case.
So if you do have to send anything to IR send it special delivery and don't pay any penalties without double checking all the info
Hope it helpful
