How much for wood double glazed windows?

We're looking at a house we'd like to buy but it's single glazed and we'd like to put in double before next winter. However, it's in a Conservation area, so whatever we put in MUST be wood and look like the original Victorian sash ones.

My question is - how do I get a ROUGH idea of how much wood double glazed windows would cost? It has 4 bedrooms, a bathroom, an attic room; a kitchen; a sitting room and a dining room.

We need to be able to work this out before we even consider making an offer (which we may not be able to afford to do), and I've no idea. Are we talking £15,000 ? £20,000? £25,000? MORE???

Anyone know ??

Are they boxframe sliding sash windows? or casement windows( with hinges)?.If casment windows, do they have glazing bars?. How many windows? opening sashes?.

Just re-read, Victorian Sash windows, so Boxframes..I've recently made some Sapele hardwood ones, 2 large bay windows,1 curved top boxframe,1 double boxframe,3 single boxframe windows . All hardwood, double glazed, draught stripped etc.Supplied purpose made victorian pattened architraves, linings etc and that was about £13.5k and the guy that fitted them charged about £2k....... Traditional boxframes with weights are more expensive than if you have sash balances ...Hope this helps

If you have 1 made at a time they are very expensive but the more you have done at the same time will work out cheaper..

Some Conservation officers will allow double glazing and some won't so do your research.

EDIT: The bay windows are basically 3 seperate boxframes so in total there were about 11.

    Number of windows = 12

I really appreciate your trying to help and I'm sorry to sound so DIM, but I really haven't a clue what the difference is.

The windows are sash - slide up and down (i.e. the bottom half slides up; the top half slides down). I guess this doesn't help ??

no worries, prices vary area to area but for 12 boxframes(sliding sash windows), a good hardwood, double glazed, new inside linings, architraves etc you should easily get them all finished for under £18k max

Should just add thats purpose made Joinery prices, Jeld-wen etc who are mass producers do make non standard sizes but IMO are poor quality but will be cheaper.......Get some quotes from small local Joinery workshops and go with the company you feel most comfortable with, if you buy the house that is...

    Good luck

Over 3-years I had over 40 quotes on 8 sliding sash windows and box frames. highest £27k and the lowest £4k with an average of £9-10k. In the end went with 6k and waited for a FENSA company with a good price, quality and I felt comfortable with.

number of and the size of the windows, hardwood/softwood/glass spec are the biggest factors
