Got a letter yesterday, saying I had been identified as due a payment, asking me to send them proof of ID.

That thought crossed my mind too, but the website:

http://equitablelifepaymentscheme.independent.gov.uk/

has been around a long time, and I've seen it referred to many times elsewhere. It's also referred to here:

http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/d/equitable_life_payments_scheme_main_doc_160511.pdf

The letter itself is mentioned here:

and the address on the reply envelope matches the one here:

so I concluded that it was legitimate.

I was NOT asked for any ID at all, so I would beware.

OH received P of I letter the other day (annuity already taken)

I must admit I do wonder why some were asked and others not. But given my earlier post I'm not sure I see anything to be concerned about.
