I have today received a demand from the above company which is a trading name of Hillesden Securities Limited based in Buckingham Rd. Brackley, Northamptonshire. They are demanding payment of £1128.31 on behalf of their client Orange Personal Communications with whom we have had no dealings. However they would accept payment of £116.40 and waive the remaining £1011.91 if paid immediately.
I have no intention of communicating with them despite their threat of registering a default on the credit file. The company registration no is 1418063 which is still active. It looks like a scam where they are willing to write off over £1000. All the paperwork looks very professional. Payment can be made by phoning 0844 800 9889 or via bank giro credit slip. They have also sent a pre-paid envelope.
I wonder if forum readers have heard of the company and what are their experience. I hope this has been posted on the correct board.

I have posted this thread on the savings and investment board and here as was not sure where to post.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to demand proof of the debt from them, which should make them go back to their client.

Or try contacting Orange and see if they deal with this firm, although a lot of companies in this country just sell on debts (real or alleged).

The fact that they are willing to discount the alleged debt to such an amount would suggest that they don't hold out much hope of settling the matter. I would be tempted to ignore the matter otherwise they will know that they have hooked a fish.

Thank you Mothballs and Kevin for your thoughts.I will try and ring Orange and probably Trading Standards in Northants if i can get hold of their numbers on Monday and wait for their response.
However i am anxious to know if other forum readers have had any dealings with the company and establish if it is a scam.

If you have never dealt with Orange, it can't be your debt to pay. Tell them you have no idea what they're on about, and to come back with some more details. If they do, you can find out what they think you owe and why, otherwise they will vanish.

Thanks to those who replied to my dilema. I have today spoken to DLC and Orange. It looks like identity theft as Orange confirmed that the transaction is recent although they would not disclose details. The case has been handed over to their fraud department for investigation. I was told that they will get in touch with DLC who had initially asked me to put it in writing. Unfortunately neither of them are willing to confirm the arrangement via e mail or otherwise.
