Dunster House BEWARE!

I have registered with this site specifically to warn of Dunster House. Be warned there is NO GUARANTEE on their cabins and any problems will be met with 'wood is a natural product - see our disclaimer'.

We bought a double thickness Hudson cabin and paid £1500 for erection on top of the price of over £4000. Within 2 weeks of erection, the interior boards had separated by several fingerbreadths to expose the silver insulation in a number of places and in some places exteriorly.

6 months later and numerous emails (you can never speak to a customer advisor) we have had absolutely no joy from them except to offer to correct the work for another £450!!

I could write a book with all the photos I have sent and exchanges with the company we have had but will leave it at that. I have serious doubts as to the legitimacy of their customer satisfaction ratings on their website.

Our experience has been sickening having paid so much money to be left high and dry with a product not fit for purpose until we pay to get it sorted out.

PLEASE BE WARNED!

  • WARNING - DO NOT BUY FROM DUNSTER HOUSE!
I bought a Dunster cabin and had it installed in 2010. The roof leaked after 1 year. I complained and managed to get them to put a new roof on. 1 year later in August 2012 the roof leaked again. So started the battle. Everything everybody has said about them is true...they are a nightmare to deal with. They refused to come out and inspect without an up front fee of £250! I wouldnt pay and had it inspected privately.
LISTEN TO THIS... The cabin design is UNFIT FOR PURPOSE. They put shingles on a roof that is too low a pitch and mechanically fixed them making holes in the membrane!! Hence the water settles on the roof, finds its way under the shingles and down through the roof.
I threatened them with court...they were not bothered.
Eventually I held the Credit card companies responsible. It has taken me 5 months BUT I have now received a FULL REFUND.
DO NOT BACK DOWN. Go to the consumer Bureau and get their help. DO NOT LET DUNSTER GET AWAY WITH THIS.
  • Last time I paid £1500 for an erection I had no problems

I'm glad I read your post before buying the same cabin ourselves..was looking at the Hudson single skin 44mm cabin with double glazing.
Was just wondering what the outcome was of your battle with DH to correct the building..?

Pheeww I'm glad this review websites exist and the poster's taking their time to post. I was going to buy from Dunster House, I don't want to risk my hard earned money and myself from stress. Thanks for the post.

I bought a very large log cabin from DH approx 4 yrs ago, built it myself and worked in it all year round as a home office. I recently sold my house and the cabin added £10,000 to the house price. So all in all a very good investment.

I am currently saving for another cabin for my new house, as I am temp working in a spare bedroom, which is not ideal.

I honestly will have no reservation in placing my second order with DH again. I have called to see if they give returning customers a discount and they do :-)

I have read this and other threads re. bad experiences, but from my own dealings, I haven't got a bad word to say. No I don't have any affiliation to DH before I'm questioned ;-/
