Royal Mail- Royal bl**dy screw up!

I posted some important documents on Mon 19th, sent them recorded delivery. I've never had any problems using this service before, so didn't think that I would this time. The documents are not so much valuable, but they contain info regarding my dissertation that needs to be authorised by a guy that may allow me to conduct my research in a prison. If he doesn't allow me access my dissertation is down the plughole:(

Have been checking on the web to see if it has arrived- nothing, so today I phoned Royal Mail up to find out where it is. Apparently it is still in the "postal process"-WHAT:confused: So I explained that they needed to be there last week and thats why I opted for recorded delivery. All I got back was that she was sorry and that it will be delivered within the nxt day or two.

I know Special delivery is better, but like I said I've never had any problems with recorded- and its cheaper

So much for that- I am so mad right now:mad:

Only special delivery guarantees next day delivery.

Recorded is rarely worth paying for unless it is used merely to 'prove' something has arrived.

Incedentally that is the exact same wording used for standard first class post, which is all recorded is really, and no, I don't believe it about 1st class mail either.

  • Thanx for all your replys, guess when I wrote it I was a little peeved:rolleyes: I didn't really expect it to get there the next day, just in good time, and I thought that perhaps having it as recorded would help. Anyway I resent all the documents today by special, should have done it at first, but £4.10 seemed a little steep- and I'm a stingy bu**er:p

My brother posted Carling Cup Final tickets to me recorded delivery last Tuesday. They still haven't arrived.

For you non-football fans, the game was on Sunday. And the tickets cost a fortune.

Tickets must be sent special as recorded only pays out up to £32 on loss (the same as standard mail) and does not cover certain tickets and vouchers. Special can insure items for the full value so in cases where items fail to arrive Royal mail will pay out to compensate.

My postie never gets a signature at all. He just dumps anything bigger than the letterbox on the doorstep, rings the bell and runs away, and anything with a signature gets shoved through.
  • Easy way to remember. Is it special? Send by Special. Do you keep a record? Send Recorded.

The counter staff in post offices have stickers on the inside of their windows prompting them to ask if things are valuable. Yes, it may be a good way to generate more revenue but it costs the business more in compensation and bad publicity when the public use the wrong service.

Yesterday, I saw an item which had been posted via Parcelforce. It was, what looked like, a wash hand basin. It had fragile stickers all over it and it was, unfortunately, broken.

The packaging that the sender thought to be adequate was a single layer of bubblewrap all over it.

I assume that you have checked with the guy you sent them to, to see if they have been delivered. I only mention this because our postie just pushes recorded delivery items through the door if I am not in, so they are never actually signed for, or recorded as delivered on the Royal Mail site. Sorry if you have already done this.
