Tripp Trapp or Babydan (high hairs)

Baby girl is fast approaching 6 months and we are going to do finger foods from then (baby led weaning approach).
I'm in love with the Stokke Tripp Trapp highchair but it's going to be over £200 with the baby set!!!
The Babydan appears to be a cheaper alternative buying she really will use the chair until she is an older child/teen then maybe the TT is a good investment?
Any thoughts or experiences?

do not waste your money on these chairs we had a nice wooden one from babies are us that converts to a table and chair for use when they are a toddler around £50 if I remember correctly.
By the time your little one is about three she will be wanting to sit on the same seats as you when eating and by the time she is about 7 she will not want to be sitting on something that she had when she was a baby believe me.
They are a very expensive waste of money, just another way to part new parents from their cash by claiming it to be am ust have that will be used for years, when in reality it will sit about for years not being used and then eventually thrown out.
I have a friend who bought an Ikea highchair for about £12.00, it did her 3 kids and has just been passed on to a friend.

We bought a Tripp trapp for our daughter when she was 6, and it is still used by both her new younger brother (now 2) and by adults as an extra chair sometimes if we have more people round for dinner than we have spare chairs!
Leaving aside its use as a high chair, it is also excellent for older children who are fidgety in school, or who have a tendency to rock backwards on their chairs. That was why we bought ours in the first place. It puts the child (or adult) in the correct posture, with no pressure on the back, and builds up the abdominal muscles they need to be able to sit properly in school and concentrate. It was recommended to us for this reason by our child's occupational therapist. I've got no idea whether the cheaper versions do this too, although they are wooden and look similar, I don't know if the design is as good.
We had a plastic high chair for our kids too, which was consigned to the loft after a couple of years, so we have definitely had more years use out of the Tripp Trapp, but it did cost about four times as much as the plastic chair so you need to factor that in too. I think their resale value on eBay is quite good though. Maybe you could buy a secondhand one and resell it afterwards if you don't want to keep it? As they are completely wooden, and also dismantle completely with just an Allen key (you dismantle to adjust the height of the seat and footrest as the child grows, or if an adult wants to use it) it is possible to clean them thoroughly so they look pristine.0 -
Before buying a highchair in this style, you may wish to view the youtube clips of various toddlers tipping them over.
They are very nice to look at though. I agree with not paying too much - we had a very expensive highchair given to us, but by the time my LO was 18 months he was wanting to sit in a chair just like Daddys!Shrinking my mortgage!

We have had a Tripp Trap for our son since he was 6 months, at 3 he is still using it, and we've bought another for our baby daughter. Brilliant chairs, my kids have never refused to go in them (unlike most of my friends' babies in their more confined chairs!) Mine have never been tipped up - I think the newer ones come with an extra part to put on the back so they are more difficult to tip. Great for the kids posture, and I do think we will use ours for at least a few more years yet. Plus they have a really high resale value on ebay so even if you only used it for toddlerhood then sold it I think it'd be fairly cost effective.0

My 2 year old is very happy in my Tripp Trapp when visiting Granny, by my I mean the one used 30 plus years ago, it has been used constantly for those 30 years, it only has a curved wooden bar and leather strap between the legs, so was not suitable as a first high chair at home. We are very happy with the £12 Ikea one for that, it easy to clean. Granny uses another TT chair for doing her art. Go for it.0

My granddaughter has Stokke Tripp Trapp and Stokke Xplory (pram/pushchair)
I think they're great, they're also sold by a company called Back in Action (I have no connection) who specialise in products that are good for your back
IMO the Tripp Trapp is definitely worth the moneyIf you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything. - Mark TwainNappies and government ministers need to be changed frequently and for the same reason0 -
I really appreciate the feedback. I have spoken to a few friends, it seems anyone who has one is very happy with it and I've yet to find a second hand one in my area (which I take as a good sign!). So I'm going to go with the Tripp Trapp.
Thanks for the mention about Back in Action - their price is very reasonable. The Best Things in Life Are Free0 -
My dd is 5 and still uses her tripp trapp everyday. I had several friends who bought cheaper copies and non are still using them...a neighbour is still using hers with a 10 yo, and yet another friend just sold her well used by 2 kids one for £90!
I heartily recommend it and only wish I'd bought one for ds too, by the time we discovered them he was too old to make it worth while.
I got mine from back in action too - best price by a wayPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

ours was a christing gift for our son, off his nana - ds is 20 this year! it's still going strong. used it as a high chair, then as a toddler chair and then switched the seat and foot plate around and now use it as an extra chair.
for those that are saying not worth it, will want to sit at a proper table v soon i think they don't know what tripp trapps are, they baby does sit at the table, its not a standard high chair http://www.backinaction.co.uk/tripptrappinfo'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0
