((BARCELONA - Tips/Advice/Directions ???))

Hello,

Posted some of these questions on tripadvisor.com but find sometimes that peolple here often give better answers :-D

...Maybe have a little competition here to see what group of people can give the better answers

Firstly, this is the location of out hotel-
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/lemeridien/property/area/map.html?propertyID=1931

Ill list my questions as i have many :rotfl:

1) Fistly, how can we get from the bus station that our Ryanair bus from Girona will let us of at, to the hotel as quickly as possibile?? If their a taxi rank?? Or a nearby Metro??

2) Any advice on an area(or bars/clubs) that a group of 20yo should go to on a Sunday night, preferably near by our hotel. & then the same again for a Monday night?? Would like to go out and party in two different areas and of course different places are better/busier different nights so maybe somebody here knows??

3) We are interested in seeing the major sites on the monday(our one and only full day in the city  ), though are not to interested in the history of the city, nor the lesser known sites(would like to see the top ten). Do you recommend we get the bus touristic(and heres a mission, where do we go to get this from our hotel??), or do you think we could walk/metro it to all the sites.

4) What sites in paticular do you recommend, plan on seeing the Segrada Familia, Spanish Village, Nou camp and Museum of Art of Catalunya. Was wanting to see the fountain majestic but i have read that there will be no performance when im there at the time....is it still impressiv without the music/lights...or is their another impressiv nearby fountain to see??

5) Can anybody recomend any good priced, and more importantly, value for money near by(to our hotel) restaurants for dinner...good prices, good food, good atmosphere!!

6) On our second day(which is a half day), plan on spending it down the port(is this walking distance from our hotel), and on the ramblas which is fourtunately just outside our hotel...does anybody else recommend anything else to do bearing in mind our hotel location?? Is their catermeran tours or anything like that...basically we want to maximise our time on trips and want to make the photos of two days look like 2weeks :-)

7) Is their anything unique you recommend...for example a themed bard(where you could ride a bull), a good photo spot at night, a certain restaurant...or anything else??

8) Here is a non specific Barcelona question. Would love one of the rooms to be upgraded at the hotel(as then we will have a balcony), but dont want to pay, if anybody has an idea what to write to the hotel to try and swing this please PM me

Thanks in advance for any answers, i know this is a book to read

    1) Fistly, how can we get from the bus station that our Ryanair bus from Girona will let us of at, to the hotel as quickly as possibile?? If their a taxi rank?? Or a nearby Metro??

OK the Girona Bus will terminate at the bus depot nr the Arc De Triomf. If you walk out the side of the station and up some concrete stairs you will see in the distance the Arc DE Triomf metro. You want to take the Red Line heading towards HOSPOTAL DE BELVITAGE, you need to get off at Catalunya which is a few stops. When you get out onto the street, cross over the road and head towards Las Ramblas which has the shop SFERA on the top. Walk down half way and on the right is the meridien you posh git.

    2) Any advice on an area(or bars/clubs) that a group of 20yo should go to on a Sunday night, preferably near by our hotel. & then the same again for a Monday night?? Would like to go out and party in two different areas and of course different places are better/busier different nights so maybe somebody here knows??

I am not a party goer. But if you go down near the bottom of the ramblas on the left (where the ramblas broadens out a bit) you will see narrow passage called Museu De Cera Bosc De Las Fades, follow it round and there is a great pub in there. Likewise at the top of the Ramblas there is a small road to the left before you reach the top. First door to the left (Talle i think is the road) there is an old coctail bar. refined yet special.

Sagrada Familia i thought was a bit of a waste really paying to go in, but the bus touristic (from the top of the rambas and bottom are bus stops you can miss them). Get a T10 travelcard and take the Metro to see Nou Camp (jusmp on at Liceu (half way down the ramblas) and get off 2 stops late for the funicular (WATER TRAIN) to Montjuic.

    4) What sites in paticular do you recommend, plan on seeing the Segrada Familia, Spanish Village, Nou camp and Museum of Art of Catalunya. Was wanting to see the fountain majestic but i have read that there will be no performance when im there at the time....is it still impressiv without the music/lights...or is their another impressiv nearby fountain to see??

we got the bus past this on the way back to the airport and i saw no lights or music. Nice place to drive by etc. The spanish village (Pueblo Espanol) is a glorified shopping place which costs a fiver i think to get in. Not really worth burning hours up over. Sagrada familia is best looked at from the outside unless you like construction and architecture then go in. cost about £6.

    5) Can anybody recomend any good priced, and more importantly, value for money near by(to our hotel) restaurants for dinner...good prices, good food, good atmosphere!!

On the ramblas you will see McDonalds. go down this road called Ferran and on the left a bit down is Mikeal or somehting like that, they have a special board 9 euros for chicken chips inc Sangria. We also found a lovely restaurant quite a fair bit down this road on the right just before the big square. There are plenty of eateries down there. Avoid ramblas for eating, looks cheap but they dont mention the beer prices.

    6) On our second day(which is a half day), plan on spending it down the port(is this walking distance from our hotel), and on the ramblas which is fourtunately just outside our hotel...does anybody else recommend anything else to do bearing in mind our hotel location?? Is their catermeran tours or anything like that...basically we want to maximise our time on trips and want to make the photos of two days look like 2weeks :-)

you can do boat tours from the Marina, Las Golondrinas. Or take a cable car ride. Why not hop foot it to Sitges (40 min trade ride) from Sants Estacio. My feet has blisters walking around the ramblas side streets and the gothic quarter. stunning views can be found at Montjuic for the perfect photo. Parc Guell is supposed to be interesting.

    7) Is their anything unique you recommend...for example a themed bard(where you could ride a bull), a good photo spot at night, a certain restaurant...or anything else??

i may have rambled on about it.

    8) Here is a non specific Barcelona question. Would love one of the rooms to be upgraded at the hotel(as then we will have a balcony), but dont want to pay, if anybody has an idea what to write to the hotel to try and swing this please PM me

why not ask when you get there for a room overlooking Ramblas or with a balcony, the spanish can be flexible and its a good time of year to ask.

Point to note, when walking down las ramblas try and avoid the roads to the right, these are a bit "foreign" and can be intimidating. Also just watch your wallet and dont get near the prostitutes, one has her hands on me (after the wallet) and tried to sell herself for 20 euro.

    Have a great time.

Thanks in advance for any answers, i know this is a book to read

How long does this take?, Is it simple? Is their taxis availiable at the bus station, and how much roughly would they cost to take us to the hotel...we have some luggage, and it doesnt really look like the kind of hotel to arrive on by foot lets just say, by the way, got a big discounted corporate rate for the hotel, and as you might see on another thread im asking for advice on how to get one of our rooms upgraded there...a chancer if ever you would have one :-D

    2) Any advice on an area(or bars/clubs) that a group of 20yo should go to on a Sunday night, preferably near by our hotel. & then the same again for a Monday night?? what about the port area(& how far approx. walk is this from our hotel) for nightlife on a Sun/Mon night...and ideas?

    3) We are interested in seeing the major sites on the monday(our one and only full day in the city ), though are not to interested in the history of the city, nor the lesser known sites(would like to see the top ten). So you recommend we do the bus touristic and not do the tour ourself on the public transport? Yes just want to see the Segrada Familia, not interested in going in. How much is a T10 travelcard and is the stop called the Liceu??
    4) What sites in paticular do you recommend, plan on seeing the Segrada Familia, Spanish Village, Nou camp and Museum of Art of Catalunya. Will skip the Spanish Village then, any other fountains/sites you recommend?

What in paticular do you recommend and can you give us details on the one you do please?? (Our bus leaves the city at 3pm to return back to the airprt that day bearing in mind...though we can get up earlish, would like to do an affordable boat tour cost/weather permitting...what you think??

    7) Is their anything unique you recommend...for example a themed bard(where you could ride a bull), a good photo spot at night, a certain restaurant...or anything else??

    Where is good photo locations??

    Spanish, flexibile...i hope, thanks

    Curse those prostitutes

    Have a great time.

    Hope i do

  • Am off to Barcelona too with Ryanair next week for second time! Would definitely recommend bus turistic. Sagrada familia (?spelling) best from outside, don't really need to pay to go in, is just a shell. Port good and definitely walking distance from la ramblas. Have a nice time!!

Sagrada famila is stunning-as said just see the outside. Do a bit of studying on the buildings of Antoni Gaudi, just so you recognise them if you pass any (well they are unmissable,i mean if you are going past any,Dont miss the opportunity to look at them)In martins tips this week is a free underground maps, but Barcelona underground is one of the easiest to understand.
