  • I can't really help with accommodation- you'll probably be looking to rent by yourself (an area I'm not familiar with), as most students aren't mature enough to cope with living with a child- most of them have the same mindset (sleep when I want, eat when I want, and fit everything else in my life around me).

Moving on... I did actually intend to be helpful. I assume you've looked into financial aid at the university that you may be able to apply for? Just in case, this link may be useful http://www.northampton.ac.uk/info/20168/student-life/187/childcare-options . Especially the bit about helping pay up to 85% of childcare costs if you're a full time student. It's not necessarily what you came here for, but I just thought I'd post it in case.

If your mother ever wants to evict you, because of all the arguments etc., then she needs to write a letter saying she wants you and your child out of her home.

The local council would then have a legal obligation to help you with housing, as you would then be homeless, and because you have a child, that puts you into a 'priority' group.

If this should happen, then take the letter to the local 'Homeless Persons Unit' and register - they will have to help you, under the current law.

Shelter or the CAB will be able to give yu further advice.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
  • I secon that you should be getting help towards your child care costs - look into it ASAP.

Could your uni help with somewhere to live? They do often have accommodation for families which may not require the same deposit and guarantor. Worth an ask.

Speak to the financial guidance team before you do anything - every university has one. You could also try the accommodation team but the above posters are right - student accommodation is not set up for children or babies, and it is a rare student landlord who will take on a family when he/she can rent rooms out at a much btter rate.

If you do go down the housing route do make sure you know about areas to live in Northampton, a lot of areas are ropey.

When I said I pay childcare from my loan, I meant through student finance who gives 80% of costs but thanks anyway :)

I want to live in Coventry and continue to commute. After my last year of uni, which is actually about six months, there's going to be no point living in Northampton and I need to stay close to family- they're still family and important to me and my son. I've lived in Northampton before, and had a very bad housemate who was so violent I had to leave.

So Coventry it is, and I'm looking for a permanent home to last for the foreseeable future. Will talk to CAB then get looking and budgetting. Can't get any Child Maintanence- he declared himself unemployed and living under £15 pw, which I know for a fact is lies, when the letter went to him charging him with thousands to support his son- he works and doesn't declare the cash. He won't see him, doesn't write, no pocket money or anything, which obviously is upsetting and tiresome, but hey, my mess, I clean it up.

I just hope this new home will be a fresh start :)
Up and onwards to the future!

Don't use your savings to furnish any place you find. Ask recently graduated friends to help, and use Freecycle, and other charities. And yes, go to turn2us for advice on claiming. And getting Dads to pay up is nigh on impossible, no matter what other people think. Again - good luck.
