Bit late to post, but to be fair on currys and comet, they don't sell the low end unbranded tablet's. Plus there sales are bolstered by the add ons (accessories, extra cover and so on).

The thing is Neil, the service is poor.

They may as well operate totally online and use their units as distribution centres - mind you with such poor they're all ready doing this.

The service I received from the seller on Amazon was superb - answering emails at all times.

How many stores did you go to though. They are not all the same, like any shop, there are some with staff who don't care, yet you could go to another store and find they will do everything to help you.

Most 3g dongle on the market are windows based. If you have a smart phone, maybe able to tether it. Or use a mifi dongle

I have a smart phone and I'm on giffgaff but they don't allow tethering.

I need to find an inexpensive way of connecting the tablet whilst I am on the move.

Most don't, but then it's not always obvious if you do it ever so often. Most may just give you a warning. "Oh i didn't know that, just found my phone could do it and thought it was pretty neat" etc. At your own risk however.

Thus your options are personal wifi hot spot creators, aka (from 3mob) a Mifi unit. Other providers have their own ones, under different names.

You can find them unlocked on ebay to throw in any data sim card.
Also for some reason the data sims on ebay give you more bang for your buck. Like for example, on a non-contract mifi unit from 3 it's Pay As You Go + 3. Pre-loaded with 3GB and valid up to 3 months. £84.99 (inc the unit itself) Pay As You Go + 12. £134.99 (for 12 months length, 12gigs)
What I don't know is when it's expired what the data only costs, as you'd have the unit and not need to buy that again.

Whilst they seem to be quite an outlay, they're really quite useful. If you unlock/buy unlocked that allows you to take it to some other countries and throw in cheap data cards, so in france for example, or spain, where ever, and then you can use data abroad (buy in the country to get said cheap data)

Also they allow a (limited) number of connections, so you could run one when on holiday for the kids to use, you to use etc.

Those are basically your only options, unless you want to transfer mobile providers to someone who does allow tethering.

(oh and free wifi when you can get it in public places)
