I had a phone call from a manager [name not known] at Primus yesterday evening, who apologised for the way that Primus had behaved with my application to change from Talk-Talk.He pointed out that because Primus is a small operator in the scheme of things ,they are unable to get change-overs from other suppliers like T-Talk etc as they have different lines.
But anyone who has changed from one ISP to another would already appreciate this. It's common knowledge that Primus require you to have a BT line originally installed if you want to switch to them. If you don't have a BT line then be prepared for an expensive connection fee and a probable long delay. As the majority of users like myself were previously with BT there was no hassle in switching to Primus. Were that the case then this forum would have been inundated with complaints amd OTELO would probably have removed their operating license by now. You and a few others were unlucky, but should have had sufficient nous before switching to have read about this .Don't assume everone like you were caught out or that everyone went through the same hassle in switching over.
  • I think that you have missed the point here .It is not a question of "nous",but the simple issue that whoever offers a service such as Primus, should make it very very clear to anyone wishing to join them ,that they can not supply a straight change over from anything else other than a BT line.I don't think that it is asking too much!On top of this,Talk Talk [my previous supplier] did not mention this at all during the many emails etc etc which I had exchanged with them.If it is so obvious, then I wonder why the very people in the industry did not know this ?I did not say that everyone who has undergone such a change-over has had the same problems as myself [how on earth would I know this ?],but judging by the forum ,I am not alone in this.

Thanks - really helpful to get a bit more background on Primus. Warning bells did ring when I saw that there were no contact details on their website. Maybe going to try BT again and see if I can get the price they will offer me down a bit more - at the moment, the lowest they were prepared to offer was £4 a month more than Primus, but if Primus are going to be a lot of hassle then I'll definitely consider staying with BT.

At the moment I'm just looking to change phone provider ahead of BT's January rise, rather than phone and broadband. Have tried my broadband provider - Virgin - but they weren't prepared to offer anything lower than BT costs (I'm not in a cabled area, so they don't offer any phone and broadband packages). Would be pleased to hear of any good providers for just phones who other folks have used!

Not the case at all. If you bothered to do a little digging, you'd have realised that Primus are just one of 3 services provided by New Call Telecom whose main contact details are here.

If you need to complain or contact them by letter then the details for their postal address are listed here in paras. 9 -10.

Thanks - appreciate the link to their contact details - but shouldn't a company make it easy for people to find their contact details if they want customers, rather than the customer having to do some "digging" to find them? I wanted to contact them to ask for more detail about their packages, but having looked all over the website which the MSE link took me to, for the special offer price, there was nothing on that site - no email, phone or postal address.
