Have you been panic buying?

I have come to the conclusion this whole thing was a plot by the garages...
Went out for the day today, needed to get petrol when we left as the light was on. Went to our nearest (early morning) - closed due to having no fuel. Same story at the next garage. What on earth happened yesterday? Why are people still panicking?
Anyway, found unleaded at the third garage but all they had was the premium Shell V-Power at 153.9p per litre. Had to get some and £20 bought quarter of a tank (Vauxhall Astra so not a big tank). :mad:0 -
I always keep 3x 5lt jerry cans of unleaded 'in stock'.
Keeps 1x car and the lawnmower filled up and ready to action at anytime. Not because I want to stockpile but the nearest petrol station is 7 mile away.0 -
So GDP fell by 0.2% in q4 2011. If GDP contracts in q1 2012 we are technically in recession.
In last week of q1, govt triggers panic buying of petrol which sees sales increase by 175%.
Petrol duty makes the govt £30 billion a year and is 60p a litre. Say petrol costs £1.30 approx that means 175% of normal weekly petrol sales is going to be something in the order of £2.25 billion. So that's about 0.16% of annual GDP I think - spending being brought forward from q2.
I hate conspiracy theories but it will be mighty convenient for the govt if the country technically avoids going into recession in q1 2012 by that sort of margin.0 -
All politicians should be obliged to have worked minimum wage jobs serving the general public before taking office. That way they can never underestimate the stupidity of the vast majority of the population. They are an EYESORES!!!!0

Yes, yes, panic all the way. I've poured out every bottle, jar and container in my house and filled them with petrol, diesel, anything I can get home in my government approved Jerry Can.
I don't actually have a car, but that's a small point - we can't be too careful can we?0 -

I read last week that by law you are not allowed to keep more than 2 jerry cans at home...
Bit weird though - you're allowed 2 metal jerry cans (max 10 litres each) or 2 plastic containers (max 5 litres each). So you can have 10 or 20 litres stored depending on which type of jerry can you have.0
