Just a small thing I know but on my old computer I had a sidebar and I installed a clock and notepad on it - very useful. I've got a new computer but cant remember how I did it. I thought it was Google but cant seem to do it.
Does anyone know please?

For ones which load with the desktop
Windows 7 is right click the desktop, click gadgets, left click a gadget then right click, click add, give it a minute to show, you can left click them on the desktop and drag them down etc to a more suitable position.0 -
Hi,
or have a look at start > control panel > windows sidebar.0 -
hi.. if you click start and then type sidebar it should be in the options0
-
I wouldn't want to: it eats up so much CPU it's more of a hindrance than an aid0

Thanks for all your help. Ive managed to put the clock on the desktop but since Google have discontinued their sidebar I still cant get a sidebar to show on my screen. I dont have a windows sidebar option under the control panel just gadgets. I am running windows 7. I understand what you are saying m5rcc about it eating up space but it doesn't bother me at all although my daughter hates it!0

Hi,
maybe this will help,
To open Sidebar- Open Windows Sidebar by clicking the Start button
, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, and then clicking Windows Sidebar.
To keep Sidebar visible at all times, you must set it so that other windows won't cover it. The Sidebar width is a fixed size.
To keep windows from covering Sidebar
Because of the space Sidebar requires, this option works best if you're using a large or wide-screen monitor or multiple monitors.- Open Windows Sidebar properties by clicking the Start button
, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Windows Sidebar Properties.
- Select the Sidebar is always on top of other windows check box.
- Click OK.
0 - Open Windows Sidebar by clicking the Start button

You can right click them and choose always on top, or not, depending on user preference. If your daughter uses it for a long session, she could undo always on top0 -
Thanks for your help and your time frugalmacdugal and santer. I searched windows sidebar in the help menu and it says 'windows sidebar isn't included in this version of windows 7'? I didn't even know there was more than one version. Its a new laptop so you would think it had the latest version but maybe like Google they have decided it was an extra that few people used. I just happened to like it.0
