Roxburghe Phone Calls (Parking Fine)

Options
Hi there

I managed to get stung with a private parking 'fine' in staples car park nearly a year ago. I understand fully the whole concept of being unenforceable etc and a complete scam so I am very relaxed about it all. I receive many letters with final threats from different people for money to which I laugh and put them in the bin- feeling better knowing a company has spent 30p on a stamp for me.

HOWEVER, recently "Roxburghe" have managed to get hold of my mobile number- god knows where from. They are ringing daily and leaving voicemails to which I am extremely angry about. I couldnt care less about the whole 'fine' and letters etc but calls are just out of order, its genuinely frustrating me. I have no idea where they have got my number from considering the only public thing I have is facebook- to which my account is completely and totally private to everyone except close friends.

Does anyone have any advice here? Is there a way of stopping a company continually harassing me and calling me? I could tell them that the debt is denied or even waste their time by just answering and not hanging up for hours. But I'm afraid if I answer any of the calls then they will just come more often.

The "fine" was from A S Securi-T. I understand they went into administration and that the assets (ie outstanding "fines") were not purchased by the new company that took them on so technically there isnt even a case to come running after this money.

Anyway, if anyone could give me some advice about the phone calls that would be great because it's really stressing me out- even though I know this fine is just a made up waste of their time and mine.

Cheers

They use a call centre staffed with young adults, they are told not to deal with "abusive" respondents and your number gets taken off the system.
    So there lies your answer...

But surely shouting and swearing and abusing a person

Is also an offence so could lead to other legal problems

Not sure what you can do tbh, I'm no expert but if it were me I would answer and tell them to go away and then hang up before they can respond! Also I've seen some advice on here before which seems to be a good idea - do not confirm your identity if you answer the phone. They will soon get bored.

Have you actually ever spoken to them, or have you just googled missed calls? If the latter, then the simple answer is to tell them that they have the wrong number when they next call. That usually gets rid of them.

I read what Ich is saying, but the likelihood of them doing anything about it if you tell them to go forth and multiply is even smaller than the likelihood of them doing anything if you don't pay their made-up "debt". And that in itself is zero.

All they try for is the sad people who actually speak to them. They are used to being told where they can go, and as vax says will take the number off the list.

They are bullies; and if you make it clear you are not going to be bullied they won't waste time or money on you.

I agree though, there is far too much free and easy use of private telephone numbers; sadly don't expect the authorities to do much about it.

All of these posts come up when you search this sub forum for 'Roxburghe phone calls':

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/search.php?searchid=123794871

That search won't last long but can be repeated easily. There are loads of posts about this and it's simple to get rid. In fact the last time this issue was raised was yesterday in the post just under yours on that search result.

I guess the best option, considering it is a mobile, is to claim they have the wrong number. Certainly with mobile numbers (as they change far more often and can't be linked to an address, unlike a landline) they will probably stop wasting their money calling if they can't be sure if it's the correct number or not. Certainly annoying as hell if they are leaving you voicemails also.

I would love to know who supplies them with such information - I believe the OP hasn't somehow let their number slip out on the internet or whatever, as some of you will know from my other posts Roxburghe somehow obtained an internal work phone number for the RK in my ticket case. Tried myself trawling the internet for anything that provides some sort of contact details for the RK (uncommon name, ex-directory) and not even the remotest link comes up.

I'm assuming somewhere there is an organization that people provide personal details to for some reason whom Roxburghe are able to fish their information from.

Request for details under the DPA, perhaps?

No the best option is to be clear and direct and tell them the debt is denied, using suggested wording as shown on all those other threads when searching this sub-forum for 'Roxburghe phone calls'. The same advice has been given again and again and again.

I have just repeated the search in my post above - so it works again today but it's easy to search this parking forum alone. Just one click (see my signature) takes you back to the forum index view and then you can 'search this forum' (on the right of the thread titles, above 'Replies' and 'Views') for certain keywords. Never search the whole MSE forum as it's huuuuuuge!

    Wot Coupon-Mad said.

Telling them they have a wrong number might be tricky if your voicemail message greeting mentions your name!

Just tell them the debt is denied, please refer this back to your client, and that any further contact will be treated as harassment and the appropriate action will be taken.

They HAVE to back off at that point.

If they don't then I'm sure Give Them FA can help you with an actual claim for harassment!
