advice please, A little confused here

I called Halifax and tried to make a complaint for PPI on 2 loans i had with them and a credit card. All had PPI.

Loan 1: Borrowed £2,000 over 3 Years in 2004. Paid Back monthly cant remember how much per month, no payments missed. Loan ran its full course.

Credit card:Limit £1150.00 Maxed out, Min Payment met for over 12 months. never missed a payment. Card still open is to this day. i paid them back £1.15 to much, Ive been in credit for years now.

Credit card 2: Virgin Money. Credit limit £3,000, Maxed out.. Minimum payment also met for over 12 months. Never missed a payment. Card closed as paid off with Loan from halifax below.

Loan 2: Borrowed £4,000 over 3 years in 2008. Paid back monthly, Cant remember how much per month, no payments missed. Used Loan to Pay off above credit card and a Virgin Money Credit card which was maxed out at £3,000.

As you can see from that mess above i dont know the details of alot of it and i understand i can send a SAR to find the information out.

I received a letter acknowledging my complaint from the halifax 2 weeks ago.

Today a letter has come through the post from a senior manager, customer services from Card Services. It says further to our recent conversation/correspondence please find enclosed our cheque in settlement for £182.67?

Is this right?, I do understand without giving you all the amounts of PPI paid on each of loans cards im probably asking a lot.

what i want to know is it worth while persuing and if so should i pass it to a claims specialist? or just accept the offer?

Thanks i'm a little lost and not very good at all this.

    Under no circumstances pass this to a "claims specialist". The CMcs will just charge you 30% plus VAT for doing virtually nothing.
    Care to share some more details? We don't know who you are (and neither do the Banks)

    We don't need figures so much as what the Bank actually say in their response. What complaint did you actually give? What reasons did the Bank give for their response? etc

    My complaint was i was mis sold the ppi as i was informed that it was compulsary for me to take it due to me being asthmatic. As an Asthmatic i was a higher risk customer to lend to. I was actually told this face to face in an interview for the first loan i took out. If i refused i wouldnt be accepted for the loan.

    from then on i have assumed this was the case and taken it with all loans/credit cards because it was compulsary.

    I had to explain this over and over to the guy who took the complaint. His English was limited so i wonder if he understood what i was saying.

    I received a letter then to acknowledge my complaint after 2 weeks. Now this has come through today, 2 weeks from the acknowledgement. It Reads.

    Dear Mr Jones:

    Account Number:*******************

    Further to our recent telephone conversation/Correspondence, please find enclosed our cheque in settlement.

    If we can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Does seem a small amount considering
    Ask the Bank for a breakdown of how they came to the "settlement" figure
    If you aren't happy with their response, take it to the Ombudsman.

    Could this maybe be a settlement for the Credit Card? Or is this a total settlement.

    My thoughts about how to procede here are:

    Complete the SAR request, from here ill have an idea of figures.

    Once armed with details of the credit agreements write back to them asking for a breakdown of the "settlement fee", Also mention that i am looking at refering the complaint on to the ombudsman.

    Doesn't it make that clear?
    If not, it's not very professional.
    However, you should check which account number it refers to, to be sure.

    The address is for the Credit card, ring them and ask what the redress is for, looks like they may have only gone back 6 years, if this is the case the redress is correct for the period you paid PPI, if the card has been in credit for years i assume you do not still pay the PPI?.
