new laptop

i'm about to buy a new laptop for my daughter and have narrowed it down to the acer aspire 501awxmi , i can upgrade to vista , Good idea or not ? and if i do should i upgrade memory to 1g ?

    If you go with Vista definately upgrade to ! Gb RAM.

    Which version of Vista is offered? If it is Home Basic remember you don't get the fancy Aero interface with it. I think a couple of other things are missing too.

    FWIW I use Vista Home Premium and have been very happy with it. it seems stable and recognised all my hardware without problems except for my scanner and I downloaded the driver for that.

    Yes definitly the more RAM the better for Vista. Though even 1GB RAM is cutting it a little fine depending on what version of Vista you wish to use (Ultimate...)

    I personally would go for nothing less than 2GB RAM, but 1GB will suffice if you are doing stuff like word processing etc. and not playing games or doing heavy video editing.
